A concrete batching plant is composed of the mixer, weighing system, conveying system, storage system, control system and subsidiary facilities. There are two types of mixers for concrete batching plant in the market: self-falling stirring and forced stirring. In practice the former is rarely used because it can only deal with flowing concrete, while the latter, which is widely applied, can mix half-dry concrete, dry concrete and flowing concrete as well. A self-falling mixer lifts materials to a certain height and then the materials fall down dragged by their own weight, during which the mixing process is realized. A forced mixer realizes mixing of materials by stirring them strongly with its blades and therefore is able to mix materials in a stronger and more complete way.

The weighing system for a concrete batching plant consists of aggregate weighing, powder materials (concrete and coal ash) weighing and liquid (water and additives) weighing. Generally speaking, materials of 20 metric meters and below are weighed in cumulative way while materials of 50m3 and above weighed respectively. A concrete batching plant normally has three parts for its conveying system. Aggregates are usually conveyed by hoppers (simple structure and small area occupation) or belt conveyor of large-inclination angle (long distance, high efficiency and low failure rate). Powder materials are normally delivered by screw conveyors and liquid materials by pumps. Storage system proves to be an interesting part of a concrete batching plant, because the storage methods vary in different construction sites. Take aggregate for example. Careful construction teams have it in large closed stock bins yet casual teams simply leave it in the open air. However, powder materials and additives are usually stored more carefully in special steel silos.

 

Although all concrete batching plants have a control system, there’s no uniform specification for it, because it’s made in accordance with practical requirements and specific type of a plant.
